Galmere Takes Gold: Awards Season 2021
It has been a wonderfully rewarding awards season for us at Galmere, and we are delighted to announce the accumulation of several new awards. We have been commended in both Blas na hEireann and the Great Taste Awards, alongside a momentous acknowledgement from Bord Bia’s Origin Green Sustainability Programme.

Award Winning Roots and Shoots Green Lentil Dahl
In early October, the 2021 Irish Food Awards, Blas na hEireann, were announced.
Blas na hEireann is an annual celebration of the best of Irish food from all around the island of Ireland, with over 50 categories. We were proud to receive one Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze Award among a superb line-up of competitors and other award-winning Irish food businesses. We are extremely proud of our products, which are crafted in Galway in partnership with several great Irish retailers.

Gifted at Great Taste
Our plant based brand, Roots and Shoots, found great praise from the judges at the Great Taste Awards 2021, acquiring our youngest product a one star award only months after its initial launch. Judges lauded the Roots and Shoots Green Lentil Dahl, with wonderful feedback.
“An attractive looking dahl, packed full of lentils that have nuttiness and good bite. All the flavours are very well balanced and the level of heat is spot on. Sweet, creamy, spicy – it ticks all the boxes.”
Cooked liked a home dish, the slow-cooked lentil dahl hit the spot. If you haven’t tried the range yet, the wonderful feedback “this has been cooked with care,” might persuade you! & we can be found shelf at selected Tesco Ireland stores and in Joyce’s Supermarkets across Galway.

Multi-Award Winning Green Pesto
Gold at Origin Green
And finally, we couldn’t be happier to announce that we have been awarded Gold Membership 2021 for Origin Green, the Bord Bia sustainability programme; the gold status is the highest form of membership a company can attain in any given year. The entire team at Galmere, based in Galway, is overjoyed to have our accomplishments and drive recognised with such a prestigious award. With just 50 Gold memberships awarded, each member has demonstrated excellence in achieving or exceeding their sustainability objectives.
Galmere’s notable accomplishments included a strong performance in waste and energy-related targets. In the Energy target area, we accomplished a 3% decrease in electricity, a 16% reduction in gas, and a 50% reduction in diesel consumption in 2020. We also performed strongly in the Raw Material Sourcing, and Health and Nutrition objective areas, having expanded our range of health based foods. Galmere celebrates its whole team’s determination to work closely together to develop innovative solutions for climate change. To continue with our efforts, in 2021 we started growing basil onsite in Galway for our Pestle + Mortar pesto, saving considerable airmiles.
Our team are proud and honoured to produce consistently award-winning products whilst achieving our sustainability targets. We aim to continue this is 2022, with our fresh Irish basil, and new health ranges launching soon.
