Galmere was born from a popular Galway restaurant. When the then owners started making coleslaw out of the restaurant kitchen, a chance meeting with a leading retailer led to the first retail listing. It was a success. Over 30 years later, Galmere is a multi award winning food producer, operating out of our home hub in Ballybrit, Galway.

Galmere has proudly been developing widely loved recipes for over 30 years. When John Casey and Peter Strange acquired Galmere, they brought a renewed energy to the company, further introducing chef Thomas Haughton; who together with the team personalised, reviewed and grew the ranges into the products you see today.

a passion for food
“My family farmed for four generations in Garyfine in County Limerick. My mother was Margaret Donworth, a member of the last generation of the family to farm. I spent all my summers on the farm and developed an early love for food and farming.
I went on to work with Fyffes – liaising with growers worldwide, then with food and supply chain business Allied Foods and later as a director of the retailer Dunnes Stores. However, working with food was a passion. Acquiring and building Galmere Foods was all about fulfilling this determination.”

A Family Tradition
“My family farmed in the Northampton area as far back as the late 1800’s where they combined growing wheat and grains alongside cash crop fruit growers.
From an early age, I was taught the rudiments of tomato growing and berry cultivation in acidic soils, culminating many years later in the decision to join Fyffes in international logistics and fruit sourcing, becoming MD of the UK fresh produce business.
I went onto work with farmers, growers and SME distributors of chilled fresh foods, including a brief spell in the frozen distribution business in Ireland.”
