Graduate Position for a New Product Development (NPD) & Specifications Technologist
Location: Ballybrit, Galway.

NPD & Specifications Technologist required to support the successful development and launch of new and existing food products by managing product specifications, and maintaining compliance with regulatory, customer, and quality standards. This role bridges innovation and compliance by working cross-functionally with NPD, quality, technical, production, and marketing teams to deliver high-quality products to the market. This is an ideal role for a graduate to begin their career with a very successful and innovative food company.
Galmere was established in 1989 and is based in a BRC A and Organic accredited facility in Galway, Ireland. We produce fresh food for retailers and brand owners including Cully & Sully, Lidl, Tesco, Aldi and Musgrave as well as our own brands Pestle + Mortar sauces and The Galway Kitchen houmous.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support the end-to-end NPD process from concept development to product launch.
· Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (e.g., Quality, Technical, Marketing, Production, Procurement) to bring new products to market.
· Participate in factory trials, first productions, and post-launch reviews.
· Recording all product development trials and specifications – concept to final product launch.
· Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production scale recipes.
· Preparing test kitchen samples to agreed tender deadlines.
· NPD market review and concept generation.
· Liaising with the team on packaging artwork design and approval.
· Liaising with Technical team on CCPs, HACCP procedures and BRC requirements.
· Prepare Nutricalc analysis of new products.
· Review and advise on ingredient and nutrition labelling legislation.
· Manage and participate in tasting and sensory panels for current range and new products.
· Maintaining BRC audit records for current and NPD trial activity.
· Collection and analysis of benchmark samples.
Specifications:
· Create and maintain accurate product specifications in line with customer and legislative requirements.
· Ensure raw material, packaging, and finished product specifications are complete, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations (e.g., food safety, allergens, nutritional data).
· Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to obtain and verify technical information and documentation.
· Support retailer portal submissions (e.g., Musgraves, Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Tesco, Hamilton Grant).
· Liaise with retailers and maintain accurate data on retailer portals.

Experience & Qualifications:
· Degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or a related discipline.
· Experience in an NPD, Specifications, or Technical role (graduate level considered).
· Experience working with specification systems (e.g., Oracle, Hamilton Grant, various retailer portals) desirable but not mandatory.
· Knowledge of food legislation, allergen management, and labelling requirements.

Maintenance Technician
Location: Galway.

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician who is ready for a new challenge within our Galway-based Irish food business. As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food production facility. You will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and conducting repairs to minimise downtime and maintain optimal efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks on production equipment, including but not limited to conveyor systems, packing machines, and processing equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues to minimise downtime and ensure continuous production
- Perform scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance to identify potential problems before they escalate
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency situations to minimise production interruptions
- Recognise and conduct repairs on any structural or fabrication issues within a building
- Collaborate with the production team to address maintenance needs and prioritise repairs based on production schedules
- Document all maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and parts usage
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organised work environment
- Provide training to production staff on the proper use and care of equipment
Qualifications & Attributes:
- Certification in relevant field
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician, preferably in a food manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment
- Previous knowledge of PLCs, control systems, and automation is desirable
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Previous knowledge of CMMS is an advantage
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and weekends as needed
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
